IOP Journal 1

Minor Details - Are Major Details.
IOP Date: May 19
IOP Novel & Topic: The Stranger & Society v. Individual
Thesis: TBA

1) I need to re-rent a copy of The Stranger by Albert Camus
2) I need to formulate a thesis that supports what I am trying to say about:
Topic: I would focus on the way Camus portrays Meursault to the way Camus portrays society's reaction to Meursault. Camus portrays Meursault as an individual who believes that nothing really means anything because people can do things or they could just as well have not done them. Through Meursault, Camus creates a character who has his own understanding of life (even though his undersnding is different then what society wants) Because of the point of view that we get as the reader, we know how Meursault is. Yet we get society's view of Meursault -that he is a man with a future and past to think about, which is different from what he know of Meursault -that he is a man who lives in the moment and does not initially take his past and future into consideration. Basically, what I want to say with my IOP is that Camus portrays the concept that untimately what society wants is more powerful then what the individual wants (if he or she wants to contribute/live in that society).
Potential? At the end of The Stranger by Albert Camus, the protagonist chooses to
3) I need to find passages which support my main points
4) I need to create an outline of what and how I will be presenting what I will be presenting
5) I need to figure out how I will present my topic (PPs are nasty)
